Scottsdale Green Belt

Beginner,  Great place to ride your new expedition,  Hardock, or beach cruiser!

25 miles oneway  3 hours

The Scottsdale Green Belt is a paved bike path that runs through many city parks along the Indian Bend Wash in Scottsdale. Its a pretty ride and great for families. 

Scottsdale's Greenbelt Trail is one of the most scenic trails in Arizona.

Directions to the Trail

The Greenbelt Trail starts at 2311 N. Miller Rd. However, there are plenty of parks along the way that provide good entry points to this oasis of grass, trees, and ponds. The path runs along 77th Street, south of Miller, between McDowell and Thomas.

Trail Facts

The trail is ideal for recreational and fitness ridders.  The Greenbelt boasts a spectacular 25 miles of pathway. The main trail is excellent, and winds through green parklands, around fishing ponds, along shallow streams, and near golf courses. In addition, the trail runs under the streets it intersects.

Desert Classic Trail
Length: 9 miles
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult - mainly due to the length

Mormon Trail
The Mormon Trailhead is located at 24th Street and Valley View Avenue (south of Baseline Road)
Length: 1.1 miles
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult (elevation change about 1,000 feet)

Beverly Canyon Trail
The Beverly Canyon Trailhead is located by the parking lot,
8800 S. 46th Street (south of Baseline road)
Length: 1.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate - some short, steep sections

Javelina Canyon Trail
The Javelina Canyon Trailhead is located at Beverly Canyon parking lot,
46th Street (south of Baseline road)
Length: 1.7 miles
Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Pima Canyon
Located at 9904 S. 48th Street and Guadalupe Road. Users can choose from a number of trails in this area, varying in length and difficulty.

National Trail
Length: 14.3 miles
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult, horses not recommended, trailpost #15 west to Buena Vista Lookout.
Desert Classic Trail
Length: 9 miles
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult - mainly due to the length


Telegraph Pass Trail
Telegraph Pass Trailhead is located at Desert Foothills Parkway (north of Chandler Boulevard) and Sixth Street.
Length: 1.5 miles to Telegraph Pass. First 0.5 mile is paved.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate - steep sections toward the top.

Holbert Trail
Holbert Trailhead is located at Activity Complex (first left turn immediately after entering the park on Central Avenue) passes near by Mystery Castle.
Length: 2.5 miles
Difficulty: Difficult - fairly steep and long.

Kiwanis Trail
Kiwanis Trailhead - turn left at the dip in the road (Central Avenue entrance), go straight at the next intersection. Follow the road back to a split rail fenced gravel parking area.
Length: 1.0 mile
Difficulty: Moderate - steep towards the top end.

Ranger Trail
Ranger Trailhead - turn left at the one mile marker (one mile in on the main road of the Central Avenue entrance)
Length: 1.4 mile, one way
Difficulty: Moderate - steep switchbacks toward the top end.


Bajada Trail
Bajada Trailhead - take the main road (do not make any turns) from the Central Avenue entrance for nearly two miles. Then, turn to the right following the signs towards San Juan Valley. Turn left into a gravel parking area at the 2.5 mile marker. The San Juan area closes at sunset. All vehicles should be outside the area by that time, so plan your hike accordingly.
Length: 2 miles
Difficulty: Easy to moderate - although there is little elevation change, some sections and wash crossing are steep.

Alta Trail
Parking for the Alta Trail is in the same lot as the Bajada Trailhead. Hikers need to cross to the north side of San Juan Road to pick up the trail. The trail also can be accessed at the end of San Juan Road.
Length: 4.5 miles
Difficulty: Very difficult - very steep on both ends, not recommended for horses or bikes.


  
Dynamite Trails

Intermediate  Varies 1 - 3 hours

A variety of good trails interlocking with one another.

Head north on Hwy. 101 to Pima and go to Dynamite Road. Park on the south side of Dynamite Road and follow the power lines north across the road. You'll see several trails. Choose one and ride.

   
Estrella Mountain Park MAP

Intermediate  10 mile loop  1-1/2 to 2 hours

An aerobically challenging 10 mile loop.

Drive east on I-10 from Phoenix. Exit at 115th Avenue and drive south. At about the 5-mile mark the road takes a long right hand turn and becomes Indian Springs Road. You'll be heading west. Go another mile until you reach El Mirage Road on your right. Just past it, turn left heading south between the fence and the dirt parking lot. Signs lead you to the trail.
.There is a $3.00 charge per vehicle. Do not go into the main park entrance - it does not lead to the track!



   
McDowell Mountain Park Competitive Track     map


Advanced  14 mile loop  1 - 3 hours

McDowell Mountain Park offers three different loop trails with a combined distance of 14 miles. There are options for the advanced technical rider as well as the beginner.

Pemberton Trail - McDowell Mountain Park

Intermediate  15.5 mile loop  2 - 3 hours  MAP

This hard packed trail is a fun ride for the beginner to intermediate rider. The trail offers great desert scenery and some nice views out over Phoenix.

Pemberton Trail is located in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park, about 15 miles northeast of Scottsdale. To get there, take Hwy. 101 north to Shea Blvd. Head east on Shea Blvd. to Fountain Hills Blvd. Turn left heading north on Fountain Hills Blvd. which soon becomes McDowell Mountain Road. Turn left heading west into the park and follow the road past the campgrounds. You'll want to park in the horse staging area. The trailhead is in the southeast corner of the parking lot.

Usery Mountain Recreational Park 

Intermediate  various  1 - 4 hours   MAP

Located on the Valley’s east side, this park takes in 3,648 acres set at the western end of the Goldfield Mountains, adjacent to the Tonto National Forest. The park contains a large variety of plants and animals that call the lower Sonoran Desert home. Along the most popular feature of the park, the Wind Cave Trail, water seeps from the roof of the alcove to support hanging gardens of Rock Daisy. The Wind Cave is formed at the boundary between the volcanic tuff and granite on Pass Mountain. Breathtaking views from this 2,840-foot elevation are offered to all visitors.

White Tank Mountain Park

Intermediate  8.5 mile loop  1 - 2 hours  Park MAP

Competitive Track
White Tank Mountain Regional Park offers an approximately 10-mile Competitive Track in addition to its trails. The Competitive Track is designed to provide challenging, strenuous, and high-speed outdoor recreation for individuals, groups, and organized events. All competitive tracks are multiple-use. They are designed for cross-country runners and joggers, fast bicyclists and racers, and trotting/galloping equestrians and endurance riders.

Trails
White Tank Mountain Regional Park offers approximately 25 miles of excellent shared-use trails , ranging in length from 0.9 mile to 7.9 miles, and difficulty from easy to strenuous. Overnight backpacking, with a permit, is allowed in established backcountry campsites. Day hikes can provide some breathtaking views of the mountains and panoramas of the valley below. Horseback and mountain bike riders are welcomed, although caution is stressed as some of the trails may be extremely difficult.


In addition, there are 2.5 miles of pedestrian-only trails. These include two short trails that are hard-surfaced and barrier free. Waterfall Trail is barrier-free to Petroglyph Plaza, about 4/10 of a mile from the parking lot. The short loop of Black Rock Trail, which is about miles long, begins at Ramada 4.


All trails are multi-use unless otherwise designated. All trail users are encouraged to practice proper trail etiquette.
Always remember to carry plenty of water and let someone know where you are going.
